As you may be aware, there is a significant amount of curriculum reform taking place over the next few years with new GCSE and A level specifications being introduced in all subjects by September 2018. Last year alone, new A levels were introduced in English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Computer Science, Business, History, Art and Design and Economics. At the same time, new specifications for GCSE are being introduced in English Language, English Literature and Maths. This year, the majority of other subjects see new specifications introduced from September.
The curriculum reform not only covers the content of qualifications but also the assessment structure of both GCSEs and A levels. An explanation of the changes to both GCSEs and A levels can be found in the documents section to the left of this page. I understand that this information will be of particular interest should your daughter be starting GCSE or A level courses in September 2016 or 2017. If you have any queries about these changes please do contact me on the email address below.
Finally, in light of significant changes to Key Stage 2 (KS2), the removal of levels at KS3 and the changes to the grading system for GCSEs we have developed a new system of KS3 assessment that allows us to effectively track students' progress from the end of Year 6 to Year 11. Details of this system will accompany every snapshot report. In the meantime, if you wish to discuss any of these changes, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Finally, let me reassure you that we will do everything possible to ensure that these curriculum and assessment changes are introduced carefully and effectively at Didcot Girls’ School to ensure the future success of all of our students.
