Year 7 students take part in 'Exstrawdinary Engineering' Workshop

Posted on: 01/05/2018

Budding engineers in Year 7 developed their STEM skills and knowledge through an "Exstrawdinary Engineering" workshop led by engineers from BP on 26th April. After learning about the role of an engineer and oil platforms,  the girls worked in teams to complete the challenge of building a structure to support a load at a set height, using the minimum amount of materials (straws and marshmallows). A wide selection of structures were produced, not all of which survived supporting a load!  However, the successful structures were very impressive.

We are very grateful to the staff from BP who generously give their time to visit DGS and provide a great engineering experience for all our Year 7 students.
