Students create murals for Didcot Fire Station

Posted on: 13/07/2017

Didcot Girls’ School and The Blue Watch team at Didcot Fire Station have been working together to design and create two large murals for the front of the station.

Earlier this year, I was approached by Jon Walker to see if we would like to create 2 panels for the front of the station.  Naturally, I jumped at the chance for the students to work on a community project and began preparations immediately!  Once the students had worked on some designs, Jon and his team decided on what they would like us to include, and it all went from there.  The Year 10 class collaborated on design, layout and the general aesthetics, and worked as a team to create the two 8 foot by 4 foot plywood panels.  One panel communicates ‘fire safety’ and the other reflects the local community of Didcot and they complement one another really well.

The students involved are really excited to see the panels in situ and have thoroughly enjoyed working on such an important community project.  We thank Jon and the Blue Watch team for being brilliant to work with, and for offering so much of their time and input to make this project happen. We would also like to thank Jewson Ltd, Botley Road, Oxford for kindly donating the plywood panels.
