Teaching Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Learning Support Team at Didcot Girls’ School.

Reporting to:

The successful candidate will work under the instruction/guidance of the joint SENCOs and Deputy SENCO to undertake work/care/support programmes, to enable access to learning for pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.

Job role:

Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area. The primary purpose of the role is to enable students with SEND to make excellent progress in their learning.  The role will require the ability to work flexibly with a range of students across the curriculum in and out of lessons and/or at break and lunch times as agreed.


Previous experience of working as a Teaching Assistant would be an advantage but it is not essential. There is scope to acquire specialist skills.

The post may suit a school leaver taking a GAP year or interested in pursuing a career in teaching in the future as we are keen to train future teachers at Didcot Girls’ School. We also welcome applications from more experienced candidates particularly those with experience of delivering structured literacy and numeracy interventions.


You will hold at least a Level Two qualification in both English and Maths.


The post will involve working up to five days per week for between 30 to 35 hours per week between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:15 pm with a 20 minute unpaid break each day, term time only. Exact hours can be discussed at interview. Applicants seeking a part time position will be considered; please indicate any restrictions to your working hours in your application.

You will be required to attend a team meeting until 4:15pm once every three weeks for training and information purposes.

This is a Grade 5 position, salary points 14-17 remunerated pro rata between £11,332 (based on 30 hours at point 14) and £14,001 (based on 35 hours at point 17).
