Interact Club meets international health worker

Posted on: 16/07/2018

On Wednesday 11th July, Interact Club were visited by Sarah Campbell, an international aid worker who came to talk with the girls about working around the world for good causes. Sarah spent several months in Kamuli in Uganda where she worked in a hospital, providing emergency care for the local people. She spoke about her inspiring work and her experiences of working for charities, and the club got to ask her about how she ended up there, what life was like and about the challenges she and her hospital had to overcome to help the very poor local community.

The location Sarah was working in is particularly meaningful for the Interactors because Kamuli is the region for which the Interact Club recently raised over £500 to pay school fees for girls who otherwise would not now have an education.

Sarah also spoke about how in her free time she visited an area that had been badly affected by landslides to help with a project run by Shelterbox, providing temporary accommodation and vital disaster relief for people and their families. This is another project close to the hearts of the Interact Club who are currently fundraising to pay for a Shelterbox that they will donate by the end of this school year.

The Interact Club would like to thank Sarah for giving her time to come in and speak with them about her work in Uganda. She has inspired the group to redouble their fundraising efforts and many are now considering their own futures and how they may involve travel and international charity opportunities.
