Music Ambassadors hold series of lunchtime concerts

Posted on: 06/06/2022

The last week of Term 5 saw a series of lunchtime concerts take place across the music departments at DGS and SBS. Organised by the music ambassadors, each concert offered an informal opportunity for students in the year group to perform in a welcoming environment in front of a supportive group of peers. From Year 7s to members of the sixth form, it was wonderful to see so many students take up the opportunity of performing and to hear such a variety of music, all performed to such a high standard. I hope that these informal concerts helped students performing to grow in confidence and feel their music was appreciated by others. Thank you to all those who gave a performance as well as to everybody who came to listen. A special thank you to the ambassadors who designed and put-up posters too.

Music is such a powerful way to connect with people and bring joy – to quote a Year 7 at the Tuesday concert: “This was the best lunchtime I’ve had at SBS.” After years of the pandemic which put a stop to live music, it was great to be able to come together and share in person our love of music. I have already been asked by a student whether there will be more lunchtime concerts to come – the answer is yes! I really hope that this will be a platform for more performance opportunities.

Elizabeth Cairns, Year 12
