Oxfordshire County Badminton Finals

Posted on: 08/02/2018

This week, the U16 and U14 Badminton teams competed in the County Finals. The U16 team faced four schools for the tournament, battling it out and playing our best quality Badminton. The first schools we faced were Faringdon, Cheney and then Bartholomew, winning all 15 games across the 3 matches. The last school we faced was Warriner, in which we won two out of five games, placing us second on the leader board. We came home with Silver medals and all girls played exceptionally well. The team included Safia Khimji, Ellie Richmond, Jasmine Barnes and Freya Melrose.

The U14 competition was a great day, with the team enjoying every second. We had four rounds and played four different teams; the first round being against Wood Green. Unfortunately, we lost both singles and two doubles matches, but we won one doubles match with the score of 21-15. The next round was against Our Lady’s Abingdon, which was a very tough round and we had to try really hard. Disappointingly, we lost both our singles, but we won a doubles match at the end of that round. During the third round we played Cherwell School, which was the hardest round yet, and everyone played extremely well. Despite losing all the matches, we still really enjoyed it. Our final, and best, round was against Bicester school, in which we won a singles match with the score of 21-11, and a doubles match with an impressive score of 21-4. We lost a singles match but won the other two double matches with the scores of 21-9 and 21-7. Congratulations to all the players; it was a great day, and everyone played really well. Thank you to Miss Gilbert for taking us. The team included Rosie Park, Genevieve Carey, Phoebe Maslen, Seren Fullbrook and Isabelle Langley.
