'Youth Speaks' District Zone Finals

Posted on: 23/02/2018

What a wonderful evening! On Thursday 22nd February, two Public Speaking teams from DGS competed in the Rotary Club ‘Youth Speaks’ District Zone Finals.  DGS had an intermediate and a senior team, both of whom had their previous heats earlier this year to qualify for the event.

The Intermediate team took the stage first to speak about gender equality.  Saffron Simpson opened the competition, introducing the team and topic with both confidence and clarity.  Carys Sharp then followed as our main speaker, and gave an outstanding performance, delivering a thought-provoking and passionate speech.  Finally, Shantal Mbziira gave a thoughtful and charismatic vote of thanks, confidently demonstrating our teams’ enthusiasm for this topic.  The girls were a credit to our school and represented DGS brilliantly.  They were runners up in their category and made us exceptionally proud.

The senior team followed presenting their views on social media.  Mia Ashley introduced the team and the topic with presence and impact, a brilliant start! Milly Norman followed with a fantastic main speech, both thought-provoking and passionate, engaging the audience and the judges.  Mina Purdon rounded off the already exceptional speech with enthusiasm and clarity. The judges’ feedback was that the speakers were all brilliant, and that our main speaker, Milly, was outstanding. The judges were unanimous in awarding the team first place!!!

A fantastic result for both teams.  All participating girls have made us exceptionally proud.
