Last week, we held a RET singing workshop led by professional singers, Emily Dickens and Gwen Martin, from the Gabrieli Consort. They ran multiple sessions throughout the day for our different vocal ensembles. The day began with Vocal Group students from DGS and SBS working on a variety of singing warm-ups, canons and vocal techniques. DGS Chamber Choir then had a masterclass looking at one of their pieces in fine detail and made tremendous improvements to their technique and performance abilities, all ready for the Christmas Concert and their next event in Didcot town centre. In the afternoon, hundreds of students from RET primary schools came to DGS to join in with our Young Voices Choir (Years 7-8) for a workshop exploring the benefits and joys of singing in large groups. They sang multiple different songs and rounds from around the world and learnt how to sing together in multiple parts. The students behaved impeccably, and Emily and Gwen were constantly remarking on how brilliantly everyone was engaging and being so polite to them throughout the sessions. It was such a joy to see students from across the Trust coming together to create such wonderful music.
