U16 football team continue their undefeated season with 8-1 win against Lord Williams's School

Posted on: 23/11/2021

The under 16 football team made it 8 wins out of 8 as they secured their place in the county cup semi final following a rampant 8-1 win against Lord Williams's School.

The team travelled without goalkeeper Violet Hogan-Thomas who missed the game through illness so Grace Beardsley took the spot between the sticks.

Striker Lily black opened the scoring after some slick passing from the attack and Lily Norton soon followed suit to make it 2. Midfield maestro Amelia Stock opened her tally to make it 3 after some nice play from Linda before DGS conceded a penalty following a late challenge. The Lord Williams captain stepped up and powered the ball into the bottom left hand corner.

Amelia bagged her second of the game in spectacular fashion as she hit a trademark 30 yard free kick lobbing the helpless goalkeeper to make it 4-1 at half-time. The second half started off with chances at both ends before Linda was taken down outside the edge of the box. Up stepped Amelia for another brilliant free kick to bag herself a hat-trick. Not wanting to miss out on the goal scoring thrills, skipper Imi hit a long-range low shot into the bottom corner to bring the goal total to 6. With DGS now comfortable, Lily Norton took the goalkeeping gloves from Grace and, within seconds of the switch, Grace ran the length of the pitch and grabbed herself 2 goals in quick succession, securing an 8-1 win to DGS - incredible scenes! Credit must go to the host Lord Williams's School who had some very talented players and gave a resilient team performance.

Didcot Girls’ are now set for an away tie against a tough Cheney side in the semi-final of the county cup. Player of the match: Grace Beardsley. Opposition's Player of the match: Summer Hawkins
