DGS marks Holocaust Remembrance Day

Posted on: 28/01/2022

Holocaust Memorial Day is marked each year on 27th January and encourages remembrance of those who have suffered the unspeakable horrors of genocide. It is a day to remember the six million Jews killed during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution of other groups and in genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

27th January marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.

At the Ridgeway Education Trust, we have found many ways to mark those who lost their lives, learn more about genocides that have taken place around the world and make a pledge to do better – be better. We have reiterated the importance of tolerance, love, empathy, compassion and inclusion in all aspects of school life. Our students have had assemblies, activities in Student Guidance Time and the opportunity to write pledges on their own flames this week.
