Year 10 students win Maths Feast!

Posted on: 25/03/2022

On Thursday 10th March, a group of four Year 10 students and Miss Sayers attended the annual Maths Feast. Maths Feast is a fun educational challenge for Year 10 students which tests problem-solving and teamwork skills. Teams of four students test their maths skills with an all-you-can-eat feast of problems! It was held at the Downs school and 15 schools took part in the competition. The challenge involved 4 rounds which were made up of different styles of logic and problem-solving maths questions. We worked as a team to try to complete all the questions correctly in the time given. The questions ranged from estimating and algebra, to learning about shortest distances on nets and 3D objects and applying this to arrange a set of match-up cards. Each round was marked and at the end of the 4 rounds the Didcot Girls' School team had won the competition! We really enjoyed the trip - especially being able to work as a team, which we don't do when we take part in the Junior and Intermediate Maths Challenges.

Our problem-solving tips for how we approached the rounds are:

- working in pairs and sharing the workload

- checking each other’s work

- using spare time to prepare for the next questions

- working methodically
