Quality in Careers Standard

DGS and Didcot 6th Form are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the prestigious, nationally recognised ‘Quality in Careers Standard Award’, often referred to as ‘Investors in Careers’.

As a school we have been working towards this award for the last two years, and were delighted in early December to have received confirmation that our Careers delivery fulfilled the criteria.

The awarding body stated:

‘Didcot Girls’ School (and Didcot 6th Form) shows strong commitment, thorough organisation, effective delivery and comprehensive evaluation in its approach to career guidance.’

Over the last two years the school has built on our already strong provision of Careers and developed it further by introducing; 6th Form Mentoring with representatives from the local business community, a network of staff from each department to promote careers within their subject area (‘Careers Champions’), increased the role of tutors in ensuring pupils are more career conscious and increased the number of pupils partaking in our amazing Takeover Days.

Of course, one should never rest on their laurels, so we are committed over the next few months to ensuring DGS and 6th Form pupils experience even more ‘meaningful’ encounters with employers to help develop their employability and are looking forward to getting pupils to complete and act on a Career Action Plan to help with future career options.

We thought it would be appropriate to share in this article another new feature of our careers delivery, a DGS and 6th Form ‘Careers Journey’, a pictorial impression of what careers delivery pupils can expect from school, before progressing onto informed further and higher education choices and we hope ultimately, rewarding careers.
