Posted on: 24/08/2017

Didcot Girls’ School is yet again celebrating superb GCSE results. Despite the enormous turbulence and reform at GCSE, we are delighted to announce that we continue to achieve outstanding results.

74% of our 179 Year 11 students achieved a Grade 4 (equivalent of Grade C) and above in English and Maths. This is in line with our record-breaking results last year. 88% of students achieved Grade 4 and above in English and 75% achieved Grade 4 and above in Maths. A third of all grades were 7-9 in English.  Results at the highest levels are also outstanding across all subjects with 66% of students achieving at least one A* or A grade. 31 students achieved 6 or more grades at A*/A or grade 7-9. The attainment and progress of students at GCSE is yet again very strong. The overall pass rate of 97% of students achieving at least 5 GCSE passes is also extremely impressive.

Our students have earned their success through hard work, resilience and exceptional effort – we are so proud of them all. High levels of attainment sit alongside excellent progress for all our students.

We believe these results vindicate our policy of not forcing all students to take the Ebacc pathway at GCSE. Instead, we believe that students should pursue an appropriate pathway of study at GCSE which they are passionate about and enables them to fulfil their potential. We are delighted that of the 23% of the year group who chose the Ebacc pathway, 20% were successful in achieving this.

There are no secrets to our success which is a result of top quality teaching, first class pastoral care and sheer enthusiasm for learning from inspiring young people. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our young people, to thank the parents who have supported them so well and last, but by no means least, to thank the teachers whose hard work and commitment has made this success possible. What a team effort!
